Rhine River drought impact – A discussion with Ben Powell, CH Powell Company and Stefan Erler, Rieck Sea Air Cargo

A United Nations report from the Convention to Combat Desertification focused on the environmental, economic and human costs of drought.  According to the UN report, the number and duration of droughts increased by 29% from 2000-2020 when compared to the two previous decades.  And drought is increasingly impacting developed countries.  From the Rhine to the Yangtze, supply chains are significantly affected.  Stefan Erler, Sales Manager at Rieck Sea Air Cargo in Germany, provides an on-the-ground update and discusses impacts and alternatives, including consequential tie-ins with the war in Ukraine.
