Tariff Changes Impacting Steel & Aluminum Imports

On February 10, 2025, the Trump Administration announced significant changes to U.S. steel and aluminum tariffs under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act. Effective March 12, 2025, all steel and aluminum imports, regardless of origin, will be subject to a 25% tariff.
This includes countries that were previously exempt, such as Australia, Canada, Mexico, South Korea, Brazil, Argentina, the EU, Japan, and the UK, who will now face the same treatment as other exporting nations.

Additionally, on February 14, 2025, the administration released a list of “derivative” products that will also be impacted by the 25% tariff, with the Federal Register notice scheduled for publication on February 18, 2025. Specific HTS subheadings are available here (steel) and here (aluminum).
